Welcome to the annual gr0x0rd hockey pool. The cost, as always, is $20. If you are interested in playing then by all means make your picks.

Everyone's picks will be shown on the main page shortly after round 1 begins...

The rules are simple. Before the playoffs start, you choose the team that will win the Stanley Cup. If you get this correct, you get 5 points at the end. The cup pick also serves as a tiebreaker in the case of a draw. Further, if 2 players are tied at the end but one player successfully chose the cup winner, that person gets the win. Most winners of this pool guess the correct team to win the cup.

You can also select the number of games the final series will go, and if you get this correct and your cup pick wins, you get an extra point. At this juncture you will also choose the team to win each series in the first round, and guess the number of games.

As the rounds progress, you will receive one point for picking the winner of a series, and get an extra point if you correctly guessed the number of games. With each round, a fresh set of picks is available, and you must submit your picks before the puck drops on the second period of the first game of each series.

Mathematically, there are 16 possible points in the first round, 8 in the second, 4 in the third and 2 in the final. Add the possible 6 for the Cup Pick for a total possible score of 36 points. This is a "perfect bracket" and has never been done, though a few have come close.

The prize structure is as follows: $20 for last place (the Brent Warren award), $20 for third place, $40 for second place, and for first place, the remainder of the spoils. Why offer a prize for last place? First, it's harder than you think to win it: Brent Warren is more successful at this than most, which is impressive in its own right. Second, it keeps people making picks and engaged in the pool even if their Cup Pick was a round 1 bust. This happens a lot.

Please note that in order to qualify for any prize, you MUST play through the entire way. Quitting after the first round does not make you eligible for the Brent Warren award.

Most of the participants in this pool are no longer starving students, but I still feel I must insist on this last point: because of people who don't understand the concept that you actually have to pay for things in life, your pool payment is due BEFORE THE FIRST GAME 4 OF THE FIRST ROUND. If you want to play, then pay. Don't be a jackass and ruin it for everyone else... theres always one every year. Send your $20 to gr0x0rd at gmail dot com via interac money transfer. You should be able to do this easily from your internet banking. Your other option is to pay me directly when you see me. Paypal is also an option, simply use the same email address. Be grateful I'm asking for fiat and not crypto, ok?

Good luck to everyone.
